| Outdoor Shrines
|

There
is something so beautiful about old roadside shrines.
Like outdoor processions, they seem to venture outside
of the sacrosanct precincts of the interior spaces of churches
and boldly proclaim to the public the mysteries of one's faith. |

Where I live, in the Ottawa
River Valley of Southern Ontario,
near the towns and villages of Killaloe, Wilno and Eganville,
roadside shrines, while not exactly proliferating, can be found
occasionally,
even frequently, as one drives the back roads around these areas.
One is always reminded of the strong roots of Roman Catholic
faith
represented here by the Irish, Polish and German settlers
who first came to this region many years ago.

And sets the grass about them all
To guard them as His spearmen small. |
